Paul, the reason I ask is I can get a truck for parts that has an AOD in it & was thinking that a mass air conversion is easier. Does your AOD hold up ok as far as towing, performance, etc?
My AOD has done everything I have asked it to do for 8 years behind this warmed up 5.8, and all it has is a shift kit. Now I don't do any heavy towing.. nothing larger than a couple sleds on a trailer or a yard of dirt in the bed, but I don't baby this thing either, it's hard to stay out of it when it works as well as it does. If the truck you get is a later version then the tranny will have the internal updates that occured over the years, and if it's in good working order it should last just fine with the addition of a shift kit. Of course you could have it rebuilt up to whatever spec you want and then you know what you got.
As for price, TCI quotes around $2000 for a beefed AOD. You can see their quotes on the site above. Makes you gasp after you look at a beefed C6 for $1200....
The truck I'm looking @ is an early 93, but like you say I'll rebuild it w/ a shift kit & it will be good to go. I will need the TV cable from the parts truck, crossmember & driveshaft, right? Anything else?
