What is the best way to check the over head computer MPG for being acurate? I know its not a true average but it doesn't change and has gone down. Last year I was averaging 1103 MPG as per the comp. now all it ever reads is 9.2. Want to check it out and calibrate it if possible. It is in a 04 F250 scab SB with 5.4, 4.10 and 265/75/16. Thanks
You can reset it at each fill up (press both buttons at the same time) and then compare when you fill up again by dividing the gallons used to fill up into the miles driven.
Your actaul MPG may vary from the displayed because the computer doesn't average the idle time (0 mpg) into the equation.
Are you sure about that? I idle quite a bit and can watch my MPG's drop on the computer.
No, I'm not too sure to be honest. I just always figured that averaging 0's must confuse the computer. There's got to be some reason why it always seems to be off...besides operator error when comparing.
