new clutch..

i pulled my transmission out today to start rebuilding it, (took two and a half hours alot faster than i thought.) i have decided to change the clutch since the tranny is already out of the way and the old clutch has about 60,000 on it. right now the truck has a LUK factory replacement with a Southbend flywheel. I'm hoping i wont need to buy another flywheel, but i cant decide on which clutch to buy, i know i want a Southbend but do i need a 400hp/900ft or can i get away with the 350hp/750ft? i have the dp tuner with 80econo, propane and some other odd and ends. also I'm seeing that some websites had a clutch fork upgrade? does anyone know anything about this?

If you have propane, then I would get the 400HP clutch.

I would love to see some pics of the tranny apart, and maybe some tips on rebuilding as you go along. I have my old one out in the garage I am hoping to use as a spare, but I am not brave enough to start yanking it apart.

Thanks!

Jon, you can get instructions and diagrams here 2001 Workshop Manual if you want to tear it down yourself. Look under Group 3 Powertrain / 8 Manual Transmission

Get the 400hp clutch. Nothing is a worse feeling then having the option to do it right the first time and not doing it, then when you want to upgrade your injectors down the road you thought "dumass why didnt you just upgrade it?"

Exactly. The extra money spent right now will not be remembered later on when you're into the throttle and the clutch starts slipping AGAIN.
