A diiferent experience
For starters they had a party on Friday night for anyone that was preregistered. Free food and a couple of cold beverages.
They had marked off all of the parking spots, so the first thing to do when you got to the party was go find a spot where you wanted to be for the show. They marked it down and it was yours. Really made getting a spot in the shade, under the trees easy. Meant that you didn't have to get there early in the morning to get the best spots. After getting the business and eating out of the way, the band
showed and you could sit and relax, listen, talk with your friends or dance. It was great. The most fun was watching the chickens running around and going up into the trees for the night.Saturday we got to the show about 9 am and settled into our space. Had over 200 cars and trucks. The judges came around and did their thing and we had a chance to roam the grounds and look at all of the cars. Made several new friends along the way. Had people from all over TX and Louisiana. A very enjoyable show !! Can't forget to mention the Longhorn steer that the caretaker rode like a horse all around the area, was quite a sight to see.
When the day was over and the awards were being handed out, one of the chickens got on the stage and laid an egg. The crowd just broke up laughing. They decided to auction the egg off for charity.
In the truck category, there was a tie and they had to rejudge the top two trucks. I came out on the losing end to a Chivy truck. Anyway I got second place and a nice plaque.
All in all a GREAT show and a real nice and pretty place to have it.
Perhaps there will come a time when the old hotrod '54 comes together again and I can swing a trip back to my first Texas home. Well, not exactly Ft. Hood, but the area around there has always seemed like home to me.
Then why in the world am I out here in the middle of west Texas? Downsizing.
Next stop: Marfa.
