Today I pulled off I-84 500 miles from home on the way to New Mexico and as I pulled away from the stop,I heard a loud hammering sound and a severe vibration as if it was only running on 7 cyls.It runs ok when it's idling, but as soon as you give it fuel,I'm pulling 8500# of TT,it seems to run out of power and is ok till it upshifts and then starts to vbrate again.. It sounds as if it could be a bad piston, lifter or valve..I got it into a RV park and it's only about a block to the local Ford Dealer.
Please give me some ideas about what it could be so I can kinda know what to expect.. Oh,and regardless of what a lot of people here said about aftermarket warranties,I got a full ride one with turbo,etc...Whew !!!

Most people feel covered when they have an aftermarket extended warranty and paperwork in the glove compartment. But he prepared for a hassle if the Ford dealer finds and suggests a major repair. First, you have to wait for the representative from the warranty company to visit the dealership and view the needed repairs and defective parts. Then this representative is going to explore all possibilities that poor maintenance or service on your behalf caused the failure. And not to mention.... a lot of dealerships refuse to deal with many of the aftermarket warranty companies now that send them in circles with answering machines and put them on hold for long periods of time. The dealership will fix your truck, but they might want payment from you.
On a Cadillac DTS recently, my local dealership had to sit on the phone for 40 minutes trying to have the replacement of camshaft position sensors approved. They told me "Never again buddy, we'll fix your Cadillac -- but you need to get reimbursement from your aftermarket warranty company next time, we don't have time for this foolishness!".
