#@&* inertia switch

i have a 89 f150 4x4 6 cyl, the right front tire blew out after replacing it the truck will not start, i have tested the fuel pumps and they work just fine, someone suggested i check the inertia switch, i did after looking in several places for it, on my truck it is to the left of the clutch pedal kind of up in there a ways it looks to be set there is a cutout around the sleeve the button is in i can see red through the cutout but the button seems to be depressed does anyone have any other ideas. when the tire blew out there was a long strip flapping around i have checked connections and all that stuff as well all seem to be ok
thanx

If the fuel pumps operate, the inertia switch is not the problem, as it interrupts the power to the fuel pumps to prevent them from running after a collision. Since the fuel pumps run, that interrupt hasn't occurred.

depends on how he tested the fuel pumps.

with key on and they go on, then inertia is not the cause.

if you run power to fuel pumps in another way then maybe inertia switch.

you need to pop out the switch.

disconnect the switch and see if it is corroded.

if you can jump the wires to see if the switch is the problem

hey
first of all thanx to all who replied, i reset the switch it didn't work so i got under the hood and started giggling wires and connections, on the back side of the air filter housing is a plastic cover under it are fuseable links or something like that one is labeled "fuel pump" another is "trailer tow" one of the wires on the "trailer tow" was corroded and had broken, i repaired that and the truck runs again damn i missed my old truck
thanx again

corrosion is a sneaky problem that is very good at hiding.

glad you found the problem.
