Aagin Welcome to FTE
I have lived in Southern Maryland most of my life. I have been involved with Fords since the 70's, when I was restoring and selling 65-66 mustangs. They were no where near as expensive as they are now, so it was a lot simpler. My best was my 1966 Shelby GT 350H. One of the few Hertz rent-a-car ones. It was a blast to own, but ended up paying for the engagement ring, honeymoon and paying off all the debts when the new part of my life started. :-)
My first truck was a 1973 F-100 XLT I bought a few years old, kept it until a neighbor offered me more than I could say no to.
My wife was not into cars, and the electronics became very expensive and sensitive, so they became things you drive. Other interests took over the time I used to spend working on them.
She died a few years back and I have been looking for something to restore and have fun with. I found this 1987 F-150 4x4 with the 351W engine with a carburetor so I can understand much of the electronics.
It has a C-6 transmission and about 80,000 original miles. I am the third owner. The first was an elderly man who died. His wife refused to sell it for many years. Finally the guy I bought it from wore her down and got the truck. He had it about 5 years, and did a lot of the mechanical work (new front end, exhaust, tires, brakes, motor work, and then the transmission.
Whoever did the trans did a bad job, and it went bad again. He had put less then 5,000 miles on the truck, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. So, he took the fancy tires and wheels off of it and sold it to me.
It needs a paint job, but has no rust. My goal is to have it ready for the spring cleaning around here.
Well, that is my story. I am glad I found this site. I have also found a few more reasonable ford trucks, so I may get into them the way I was into the Mustangs.
