My 99 (Bought May 98) is due for a coolant change. The thermostat is the original one. The engine temp gage shows in the normal range but I don't know that the gage is very accurate. I only have 62,000 miles on the truck.
At 10 years should I go ahead an replace the themostat?
For the "Peace of Mind" I change the T-Stat and hoses every 2 years needed or not. I also test it before installation. Glad to know I'm not the only one cooking T-Stats, the D/W thinks I've gone nuts. Been driving for 30 yrs and never had a cooling related failure on the road.
When I did my hoses two weeks ago, I found that the lower hose with the 2 tees back to the oil cooler above the oil filter was a real joy to remove. I ended up removing the oil filter to get a set of pliers on the clamps. Is there a better trick, it really annoyed me since I had just done an oil change a 1000 miles previous.
juterbock, not really thought of a trick for removing the clamps. I just change the oil at the same time that I'm replacing the hoses. I suppose you could use regular clamps but I don't think that it will really make the job any easier.
