O2 Sensors

What makes O2 sensors go bad? On my 97 f-250 4x4 ld 5.4 they go out like all the time. Maybe get a year out of a pair if that. Anyway to kill this bird for good?

Why do you think they are going bad? codes?

It could be the wiring that is bad.

A clean connection when replacing the sensor is a must too.

Anyway, post your codes and the reason why you think the sensors are bad.

Sensors are good for at least 100,000 miles before they have to be checked.

More likely than not, the sensors are fine and the symptom is being misinterpreted due to a faulty diagnosis.

If they truly are going bad I'd look for either an extreme lean or extreme rich burn of your fuel, other than that all I could think of is a wire shorting something out or if you drive in a hellova lot of standing water maybe it fries them. Is it all 4 that go bad or just the post cat or pre-cat?
