LFC 27/DTC B1884 - Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Switch Warning Lamp Inoperative
The air bag electronic crash sensor (ECS) module has the ability to deactivate the passenger air bag under certain conditions. When the passenger air bag is deactivated, the passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) switch warning lamp will be illuminated.
The ECS monitors the PAD switch warning lamp for open or short to ground conditions. If the ECS detects an open or short to ground condition on the PAD switch warning lamp circuit, it will store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1884 in memory and flash a lamp fault code (LFC) 27 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.
Possible Causes
An open or short to ground on Circuit 1113 (Y/LG).
A damaged or burned out PAD indicator.
A damaged or inoperative PAD switch.
A damaged or inoperative ECS module.
A blown PAD switch I/P Fuse 22 (7.5A).
Be careful if you start checking wiring, as you may activate the system.

"I read in the archives that the lamp is sold as an assembly (switch, indicator lamp etc.)and is in the $75 range at the Steeler. The lamp is soldered in place.
However, one member here purchased a 12v 25ma lamp from Radio Shack and soldered it in place himself. I'm doing the same. Purchased the lamp today. It's part # 272-1141 $1.29 at Radio Shack."

Never had any problems with my truck but my wifes Mazda Tribute (Ford Escape's twin sister) did this and it turned out that the phone book she had crammed under the passenger seat had pulled on the wire harness under the seat when a passenger had slid the seat all the way back. I unplugged it and re plugged it good and snug and the warning light went out. Did a search on the Ford Escape site and found this had happened to others as well. Just a thought.
