Greetings all....just registered (for reasons I'll get to later). Am a retired engineer (electrical) who loves working on old iron. The bug bit me when we (Dad, Brother & I) purchased a vintage (60s) Ford 4500 Diesel Backhoe. Needed a truck so bought a 64 Ford F-600 (stakebody dump). Needed parts so bought a 64 B-600 Bus. Needed more parts so bought a stripped down 55 Ford F-600 with dump body kit (farm truck). The 64 had some reliability issues (brakes mostly) so bought a 78 F-600 (Navy Surplus) as a fixer-upper (still working on it). Figured I was digging a hole with the Navy truck so bought another 78 F-600 stakebody from Army surplus - almost mint with 24K miles..some minor repairs (and 3 months waiting on Gov't paperwork) got titled, inspected and on the road. Need power steering for the 78 so bought a 79 F-600 Tow Truck for parts. In between have bought numerous Ford tractors (4400 Industrial, 3400 Ag, Ford 3000 Military Tug (Airplane tow tractor) and other military iron (several MEP 10KW generators, a couple of DC welders...not Ford stuff but heavy iron and interesting to work on. Generators work great when the power fails...keeps the family happy when the creature comforts (water, lights, refrigeration, air conditioning, etc) can be maintained for those hours (sometimes days) when the local electric company is restoring power according to a priority list with homeowners like me at the bottom. I'm a big believer in buying used. I'm also a big guy (250+) and was disappointed in 04 with the downsized F-150s so bought a Dodge (1500) instead....sorry Ford...got a bad back and just couldn't climb into the cab - kept hitting the side of my head on the window/roof post. Anyway, I registered because Ford (Corp) discontinued selling parts for anything older than 1980 and I'm always seeking parts on EBAY and elsewhere (hopefully here) for my 64 and 78s. Enough said....goodnight all.
