Been reading at fte for a few years and decided to become a member tonight.
I have a 05 f350 v10 and I am interested in a mpg computer that has a video
output jack or a good size screen to glance at while driving.
Lots of good info here at fte thanks for any help you guys may have.
If you are wanting to monitor MPG and do so via a digital screen, I would recommend a Scan Gauge. It doesn't have a large screen by any means, but it is very easy to read at a glance. It also monitors and records a wealth of addtional information as well as reads any error codes from the CPU.
As for MPG, it gives current, todays, yesterdays, since last refill, tank, instant, miles to empty, miles per gallon, miles per hour.
I suggest you visit their website, I believe it is ScanGaugeII - Trip Computers + Digital Gauges + Scan Tool
It is a simple plug into the CPU port and program your vehicle specs as to engine size, fuel requirements, and fuel tank size. And you are ready to roll.
i don't have one(yet) but i'd say scan gauge as well. i have messed with one on a chevy while a friend was driving, and they are a pretty decent gauge! my friend found his on ebay for $50.
There is a MPG digital display on your instrument panel, I assume it comes on all models of trucks. I know that a lot of guys complain about it but if you reset it with every tank full I've found it to be quite accurate.
I too have the scan-gauge mounted above my mirror. I use it to monitor engine and transmission temperatures plus battery voltage.

Thanks for the welcome Jorjen. I will take a closer look at the scangauge 2. Btw Rob not all the trucks come with the mpg display option on the instrument panel.
I have the Scan Gauge II with the blenmount from MGT Motorsports.(FTE Sponsor) www.mgtmotorsports.com The scangauge is a great little unit, I should have bought one sooner. It displays tons of info and can be expanded with the X-Gauge software that is included. To mount my scangauge on the Blendmount from MGT I had to buy a longer 14' ethernet cable because I hid the wire in my trucks trim pieces.
