The truck originally has a pilot bushing, but I have a brand new pilot bearing that, according to AdvanceAuto's computer, and my measurements, will replace the old one without a hitch. Is this okay to do, to switch from a bushing to a bearing?
I replaced my old pilot bushing on my 1964 F100 (292 V-8, 4 speed) with a new pilot bearing 3 years ago when I overhauled my transmission and replaced my clutch. It works great!
I suggest that you try the new bearing for proper fit on your transmission shaft before you install it in your flywheel just to make sure you've got the right one.
