I like the air bags personally because of the adjustability. I already have a 350 but with the front leveling kit it tends to look "squatted" with a load so the air bags put it right back to level. Also, my towing/tongue weight/payload vary from time to time. Regardless of the load I can set the truck just the way I want it with the push of a button.
celliott, i have the exact same situation as you . (plow package makes it sit DEAD flat) the stock blocks in your truck are 1 7/8" f350 blocks are 3 3/4". you can buy the blocks and new u-bolts you need right from ford for about $130 total. the f350 blocks will also have the factory bompstop spar. i ended up buying air bagsbecause i tow quite a bit, i'm actually installing them today.
Yes you can raise the truck up with the air bags however I wouldnt suggest trying to use them in order to get a few inches of lift. An inch or maybe 2 might be OK. You will feel a difference in the ride if you are using the air bags as a lift. Much stiffer and rougher with the air bags pumped up. When I am riding empty I only keep 5 pounds in my air bags (just enough to prevent any damage to them) because its a pretty rough ride running 20 psi or more.
The air bags are great if you need just a bump to make it level. My truck is level empty so the air bags work perfect for towing because I bring the truck back level regardless of the load.
Some other options for a little rear lift would be offroaddesign 1" zero rate add a leaf $40+/-, it has a new center pin that bolts to your leafpack. Ford also sells 1/2" and 1" shims for $60-110 that are designed to go under the stock block. These were used to correct the infamous driver side super duty lean. A new single block would be the best option though. My truck 00 supercab longbed looks perfectly level with 1/2" more height measured at top of wheel wells in the rear. Good luck and let us how it turns out
My 2004 sagged noticeable after about 1 year, but I do a fair amount of extra-heavy towing. My last couple of trucks, ('99, '94) I cracked the rear springs on (I think the towing puts odd stress on them or something) so on this one, I put on the add-a-leafs that are aftermarket available, when the truck was about a year old. That raised the rear only a couple inches, but it makes a nice difference. Ride is rougher, tho. But it's an easy job to install and no maintenance!
I did 1" add a leaf to my 06 F250 when I had it, makes a big difference.
