Has anyone installed front discs from a newer 8-lug truck into a 57-60 F250?I'm sure someone will suggest it,but I am not interested in any conversion that changes to a different bolt pattern.I am hoping there is a direct bolt on conversion.Is it wishful thinking?Steve.
I met a fellow last year at the Spokane Goodguys show in August that has a 47 Ford COE that did something with 8 lug disks that I've never seen before. He used the spindles, and steering from an E350 Ford Van (early 70's) and grafted it all onto use with his original I-beam axle. He said it took some machining, and some careful setup on the steering box, but he made it work. I rode in the truck some, was was very impressed with how it worked. He also had air bag suspension on it, so it was quite the low rider. It is the only truck around I've seen with the 8 lug setup done from parts of existing rigs.
It's obviously not a quick bolt on deal, but does work. The whole truck was a marvel of innovation and creativity. Unfortunately time do not allow getting it onto a rack to get photos of the suspension and steering. I'll post a photo of the truck later this weekend. Time to get to work now.
Here is a link to a couple threads that were discussing converting 3/4 ton front brakes over to discs that keep the 8 bolt pattern. These are on the older F-2's and F-3's, but I can't imagine it being too differant on the 57-60's

I am swapping in dual piston disc brakes on my 52 F-3, however I'm also converting to 4x4 at the same time using a narrowed 77' Dana 44HD
