Good day everyone, first I just wanted to say that I upgraded from my 97 F150 4x4 with the 4.6 and 3.55LS to a 05 supercrew F150 4x4 with the 5.4 and 3.55LS. The 97 gave me around 20mpg on the hiway. Combined it gave me around 15mpg. Towing my 6000 lb trailer I got about 10 mpg. Now on my new truck my hiway mileage is 19 mpg, combined is 14, and towing my trailer 9 mpg. There is a small differance in mpg but a huge differance in power. Having said that when I am hard on the gas I get about 11mpg. Hope this helps. BTW love my supercrew.
Ken- When are you going to be done with your article on improving fe??
The article is done. I haven't been able to publish it because I've been wrapped up in finishing 3 other articles (Scangauge II, DashDAQ and Air/oil Separator). Its now up to over 60 fuel saving tips! I'll publish it this coming week!
06 f-150 s cab 4x4 5.4 auto. i drive 7 miles to work on small country roads and average around 50 mph. i have filled up four times and have averaged 17.5 mpg. this is with a fully loaded tool box and a lot of tools and truck parts in the bed. i dont think this is too bad for the loads i carry all the time. i use 87 octane unleaded gas and have stock 17 inch tires. my hair is mostly gray now along with my beard but with the price of gas now i will soon be looking to buy a bottle of blue dye like the older people have. maybe with the blue hair i can get 18. ha.ha.
my mixed driving is 30 miles highway and 32 miles city driving. I just got back off a 360 mile road trip and avg 22 mpg. The main idea is not to let your left foot get too heavy . I do put 6 oz of pure acetone in my gas about every 3 tanks and i notice some gain in MPGs. This is like putting a fuel injector cleaner in but only cheaper...Now my wifes 4.6 ( same year) only avgs 12 mpgs. Im thinking that i finally got one of the good ones LOL
yes my truck is FFV.... and with that comes stronger internal components. BUT adding 6 oz of acetone to 27 gal of fuel is very slight. On the shelf gas additives also contain acetone. Only difference is they are mixed with other ingredients. But after much research the mixture of pure acetone is actually less then in additives. My mixture is only 1.38 % acetone. REsearch STP and such and you will see its 3% acetone.
yes my truck is FFV.... and with that comes stronger internal components. only difference between FFV and non-FFV is the FFV truck has different PCM tuning to utilize E-85 without knocking and the internal seals are a different material...maybe fuel pump is different also. otherwise, they are mechanically identical.
BUT adding 6 oz of acetone to 27 gal of fuel is very slight.
REsearch STP and such and you will see its 3% acetone. I'll take your word on that. even diluted, the thought of dumping acetone into my gas tanks makes me cringe. be careful with that stuff
