rear end
I bought a 79 f150 the rear end is curently out of it the wheel and axel came out. The prevous owner said he put the wrong axel in 9in and got a diffrent one to put in but never got around to putting it in. shouldnt the corect axel be a 9in though?

Look for the Ford AXLE ID tag on the carrier, should be bolted on at 5 o'clock. Post the code.
If the tag is missing, post the AXLE code off the Warranty Plate.
There are several different 9 inch rear ends used on 1973/79 F100/150's. Some have 28, some have 31 spline axleshafts.
