i have a 2000 ranger 3.0l 4x4. gas milage SUCKS! about 14-15 mpg if i treat it right. i put denso iridiums spit fires in it back when gas was around 3.15 a gallon thinking that would help. it was about 25k ago i guess?. not too sure. well, over the past 15k i have heard clicking. some people say its my injectors, which it might be. i also ran a lot of fuel injector cleaner though it over time. i believe i should have stuck with the motorcraft platinums in it. should i change them out even though i put the other ones in there? heres the problem...they were 12$ each. now im cursing myself for what i did. i HAVE to get better milage! also, anyone know about this hho gas stuff?? i keep trying to find reviews, but all i find are sights selling the fuel cell or the plans to build one...any one used them? thanks
You're right, you should stick with the Motorcraft platinums. One of the current threads addresses the difference between Motorcraft platinums and split plugs. Take a look at it.
If the engine is running ok, and does not have a miss, you do not have a plug problem. A 3.0 4x4 does not get great mileage. You might check your driving style. This is a small engine in a fairly heavy truck. Don't lug the engine, keep the rpm's up. jd

A whole bunch of questions come to mind.
Is the truck stock, or have you modified it other than the plugs, like mesing with the air intake, using a oiled cotton gauze or foam type air filter, over sized tires, exhaust, ect????
What weight motor oil are you using & what octane fuel have you been running.
Is this a flex fuel 3.0L, if so are you using E-85????
Have your mpg concerns come about slowly over time, or suddenly after some event????
As has been asked, is this city, or highway mpg????
Pull the plugs, check for wear and gap. The Motorcraft or equiv plugs that AZ has are good, I got the Honeywell ones, added about 3-4 miles/gal over my old worn out ones.
Adding anything to the gas or engine will really only make it worse, if there was something as cheap and powerdense as gasoline, we would already be using it. HHO is a weasel word for H2O, water. Water doesnt burn, its the by-product of combustion or oxidation. That means you have to take water, and apply a LOT of energy to break the hydrogen bonds, either via a **** tonne (metric, of course) of heat, or electricity, both of which you get to pay for at some point. Not to mention that the stuff burns hot, its hotter than acetylene...
14-15 mpg is a little low but your losing some in the 4x4, I suspect. I get 18-19 in the city, with long stop lights and daily multiple WOT runs from a parking lot/side street onto the main streets. I have a 2000 2wd 3.0 FFV, run on 87 octane 10 percent or less ethanol gas.
