i have a 96 f150 with the 4.9 I6. i want to put some bigger tires on it i realize that i will need a lift kit. im thinking some 33s or 34s, what size lift would i need? i would like to keep it under 900 if at all possible...maybe not. any suggestions on tires and lift kits for my truck?
I have a 95 F-150 with the 4.9l I6 also. I lifted it 6" with SkyJacker Suspension lift kit and now run 35"x12.5" tires. Plenty of clearance. For 33" tires I would Recommend a 4" lift kit. The 35"x12.5" tires ran me about $800. They are the BFGoodrich A/T.
As for the lift kit I would highly recommend you get a suspension lift kit and not a body lift kit. Body Lifts are stupid
ok i think ill probably go with the 4" do you suggest any specific brand? i would like to go as cheap as possible without buying something that is going to break in a year
are you planning on installing it yourself or have it professionally installed. SKYJACKER is a realiable company/product and is pretty affordable. it was about $2000 for the 6" suspension lift kit installed. but i believe you can get it for about $1000-$1200 for the stage II. or you can get one cheaper than that from another company but depending on what company is how realiable it is. the price depends on what package you want. each package has different items for the lift. Search through different forums and see what guys say about different lift kits they have. the guys here are pretty knowledgeable.
i have a 302 truck with 33"s and no lift.i do have some rub on the radius arm when turn hard to the left with a dip on the road or ground.my guessand a cheap way out would be a 2" lift and they sell for about $250.
do you think the 2 inch lift would be enough for 34s? i would install it myself. i want to keep it as cheap as possible cause my tires that are on there right now are a around 160 a piece and have been on there for ever and almost time to get some new ones so i figured why not have some fun with it...i'v always wanted to lift it.
how wide is the tire.
what is the back space on the wheels your running.a 4" back space on the wheel will help keep the tires from rubbing the radius arms.
if your plaining on rock climbing or extreme wheeling you`ll need more lift and longer radius arms.
for a cheaper lift idea, there are companies online that sell lift kit parts.if road driving is not as important as off road.you can buy just front springs and rear blocks.this would not help front end alignment, but it would give you the tire clearance that you need.
