Tranny Prob

I have 03 F-350 7.3 with the powe pack plus banks kit an have been towing a weekend warrior 3505 5th wheel. whenever I back into my drive 50 plus feet at an incline my tranny temp goes up to the yellow, I just had a new TC put in my the dealer and always change my fluids, anyone out there that can help, fluid is not burnt

I have heard that when backing up a hill it is best to use your 4low, if you have it. Hope that helps alittle.

I am sure other will chime in and they will be alot more helpful.

BTW Welcome to FTE!!!

2 things that are working against you:

1. You are in reverse, going up hill at low speeds which means no air being pulled cooler.
2. You just been driving a large load so the tranny is already nice and warm.

Like Cris said, if you have a 4x4, some users have swapped their front hubs to aftermarket types with no vacuum assist, don't lock the hubs and used their 4 low in 2wd to back up long distances. You can use your 4 low in 4x4 as well if you don't want to swap out your hubs. Others have installed a tranny cooler out of a 6.0 truck - much larger than the stocker 7.3's. This is highly recommended for towing anyway. Now, when you are in reverse, you still won't get much air through the cooler but it will help when you are towing to keep your temps down before backing it in the yard. You may even consider an aux. fan on the front to push air over the cooler when backing up also. Replacing with syn. tranny fluid is also a good consideration.

Keep reading around the site, there's tons of info and welcome aboard.

One more thing, I strongly recommend purchasing an aftermarket trans temp gauge. The dash gauge is not accurate enough to see how hot your tranny is getting. If you are in the yellow on the stock gauge, chances are you cooked the fluid.
