Hey Guys,
I am trying to find some info for a buddy of mine. He's got a 97 F150 4.6 4x4 auto. It idles way down when coming to a stop, and sometimes it dies. I told him it sounds like the throttle position sensor. He took it to a mechanic today, and he told him that he thought that the #6 cylinder is burnt??? I'm no mechanic, and I no nothing about a 4.6. But if this is as serious as a cylinder or piston, wouldn't the truck be missing or smoking?
Thanks
If it's okay, the IAC valve is probably gummed up, an extremely common problem for most Fords of this vintage. Cleaning the valves sometimes helps, at least temporarily. Usually, replacement is needed, though.
I just fixed this same symtoms on my sons truck, iac was okay,no codes, the NYLON ,double elbow line under the throttle body to left valve cover was sucking air on 1 or both connections,I installed a hose with clamps and she idles smooth again....GOOD LUCK
