ok im about to replace the 400 with c6 in my 73 longbed with a two piece drive shaft for a 300 with a 3 speed manule i was wondering if i would be able to use the same drive shaft or if i would have to replace it
yes im replacing the drive train im taking out the 400 with a c6 and putting in a 300 with a 3 speed standerd the truck has a two piece drive shaft can i use that with the setup im putting in or do i have to change it
It depends on the length of the new engine and tranny combo. If the shaft right behind the tranny is too long or short you could just have it modified at a driveline shop for not too much money. I wouldnt touch the rear shaft just worry about the small one. Or just use the shafts or shaft from the donor if they are available. Also you may want to check but I think the C6 has a slip yoke on it I am not sure what the manual will have either a slip or fixed yoke but I suppose it wouldnt matter you could just still have the small shaft made to fit whatever length you will need.
By the way how come swappin out the 400 is it done?
yeah the 400 is done and i also needed somthing that would get me a little better gas milage cause my only other mode of transprotation is a 74 shortbed with a 360 and these gas prices are killing me
If your drive line won't work when you get done installing the new engine/tranny, measure from the center of the carrier bearing to the center of the yoke coming out of your transmission. Give that measurement and your drive line to a drive line shop. They will be able to make one that will work
ok well whats the possibility of just using the driveshaft from the truck im getting the motor from whitch is a 86 f150 longbed (i think its a long bed)
