I just built a 289 motor with 302 heads and bolt down style rockers. The motor starts and runs great. We had an issues with one lifter and push rod that was bent after first starting the car. we built it from a short block
Are the lifters typically loud on a build like this? The car runs and sound great but it has a ticking sounds that seems troublesome to me. We pulled the valve covers off and everything looks fine. Check the oil and it is full.
I know that this is kinda a vague questions but I any response or insight would be helpful.
What cam is in the motor?
Did you check for piston to valve clarance with a solid lifter?
Did you check that the pushrods are the right length for this combination of parts?
in addition to clarifying the above mentioned, confirm that you properly adjusted the rockers. Re-index the crank at the recomended intervals and recheck all your adjustments at each index.
