I want to add a cd player to my truck and keep the factory apperance. I see alot of nice cars with radios that ruin the look of the interior because they don't match. I wonder what it would take to convert my factory am/fm/cass to a facory cd. What model could a useable cd come from? I would run extra wire for speaker outputs if nessesary, but would the factory harness plug work on the new unit? I really dont want to cut any wires in my harness, could an adapter be made up? Surely a plug could be made taking power from a fused source to the unit and sending output wires to the nessesary speakers. Keep in mind this is a 91 so it doesn't have the newer double size face.
Dude, just go aftermarket and look for the style of head unit that you like the looks of.....Many are much more customizable and much less hassle to install than a factory unit.
And small size head units (1 DIN) rule the land.
Check out Alpine, they look the best in my opinion. I have a 1996 unit that looks very at home in my 1978 cab.
I know what you mean that some head units ruin the look of the car, SONY XPLOD PRODUCTS ARE THE CAUSE!
Hey man, I have an Alpine CD and I love it, sounds awesome with my bazooka Bass tube Behind the seat.
Check out my gallery there is a picture of my radio in the dash, I think it looks great.
