I want to ad 2 amps and replace the factory speakers in my Excursion. Crutchfield claims 6X8's will fit, but everybody else says 5X7's. Anyone know for sure? I really don't like anyone else working on my vehicles, so I plan on doing all the work myself. Also, has anyone put 6X9's in? I would like to go to 6X9's, but how much work is involved? I am extremely mechanically inclined, but I don't need my truck apart for 2-3 days while trying to install 6X9's if it is a really labor intense job. Any Excursion owners willing to share your experiences?
I do not have an Excursion , but have helped a friend w/ his. The 6x8 will fit fine. I have the Pioneer 3-way 6x8's, 3 Kicker amps, and a JL 10" sub in my Explorer, and they are great sounding.
Another choice is going with a 6.5" setup, and use a separate tweeter. There are some very nice 6.5" and tweeter sets that come with the crossover. Guess it all comes down to personal tastes.
I would not go with the 6x9. I have heard you have to modify the opening on the door to get them in. If you ever take them out, you would have to make some type of plate to get others back in.
