new build

im sloooowwwwwy re-build a 390. it is bored .040 over new crank with silvolite pistons. re-furbished rods. will be getting all new bolts (connection rod, main yada yada yada)

still on look out for a set of heads, have a couple of leads but no big hurry right now. using comp cam #343901. havent decided on intake or carb as of yet. this will be going into a 1967 f-250.

now for the question:

has anyone used z-max in their engines. been thinking of using that. but plan on cooking the internal parts first then soaking them in z-max. supposedly to soak into the parts while the pores are still open and when the parts cool it is penetrated into the metal. seen this on power block a couple of times.

went to z-max website, not a lot of info there.

just looking to get others input

thanks in advance for your responses.

Never heard of the Zmax stuff so ? Let us know how it works out
I am a big fan of the Betty Crocker Sunnen® Bako/Blast/Shako contraption, does one hell of a nice job of getting parts spiffed up.

as to the heads, I have found a set of C4AE 6090G, C1AE etc,.. in parts yards on several occasions now. So a decent set of cast heads can be found pretty cheap but by the time you gettem up to speed your 5-7 bills in the hole. But I'd prefer that route to Flakin/AutoStoned/Scrapa etc..

Not a big fan of bonding materials such as slick 50 or any others. My opinion is get good machine work use top end parts and after initial break in if your wanting longevity use Amzoil. It has been proven to be the best synthetic out. I believe you must get a good break in first otherwise the synthetics are too slick to seat everything.
