problem with 95 PSD skipping

Okay, I'm fairly new to diesels, but I have a problem that I can't seem to find an answer to. I have a 95 f350 crewcab dually with the PSD and auto trans. Here's the problem. The engine runs really rough (skips) especially when it's cold. One mechanic told me it needs glow plugs and to try keeping the block heater plugged in at night. That improved things a little, but not much. Another guy said it was injectors. I had a leak from the fuel pump, so I had that guy install a new pump and he checked the injectors for me. He said that only the #1 injector checked out bad. I plan on replacing that injector soon. I picked up the truck and it was still running about the same around town. But when I got out on the road for about 15 minutes, it seemed to lose a lot of power. Had to floor it to accelerate from 55 to 65. That doesn't seem like just one injector to me. I read that these engines don't run too well if the temp is too cool. When I noticed the loss of power, the temp gauge had fallen to the lowest leg of the normal bracket. I'm in the process of installing a 205 degree thermostat, but one of the bolts broke off (new water pump time!). What do you guys think I should do from here?

Wow, a lot of issues.

How many miles?
Did it run OK at some time?
Have you changed the oil lately?

Someone with smarts will jump in here and help but will probably need more information on past service.

Can you check your fuel pressure. Did he really replace the pump?
What mods do you have on the truck?

No mods. Bone stock. Oil was changed less than 1000 miles ago. I know the mechanic well, and know that he did replace the pump. It's got about 130k miles. It ran a little rough when I bought it. Got better after I ran some Stanadyne in the fuel a few times, but never completely like it should be. I haven't been driving it much lately with fuel nearly $5 a gallon. I don't have a way to check the fuel pressure, but I can get it done if needed.

It's always been a little rough when the engine's cold, but it has always run strong once it warmed up until now.

How cold is amb temp?
You could have a sticking EBPV.
It cycles at startup.
I would unplug and test run.

It behaves this way in any temp. It's worse in the cold, but it's in the 90's today.

Clean the FPR screen then check pressure. Ohm out the GP's and disconnect the EBPV.

How did he check the injectors to tell you the one was bad.

If you need new injectors don't go dealer or even e-bay. Rosewood can do them for you cheap or you can do them yourself with his DIY kit.

He checked the injectors with a scanner. Said the #1 injector was the only one that showed up bad. I'll check the pressure and clean the screen and ohm the gp's like you suggested. He thinks the injector harness might be partially unplugged or burning out.

Good call, look at the harness and look under the valve cover too. Inspect the pins in the VC plug.

Fuel pressure seems good and the injector harnesses seem to be plugged in. I'm thinking about going ahead and rebuilding the injectors and replacing the wiring harnesses. My friend says he's seen some of these engines burn the wires and cause some of these type problems. How do you get in touch with Rosewood about the injectors?

Neal, if I go with the stage I injectors, are there any other mods that I have to make right now? I was thinking of getting a mild chip eventually and maybe a 3" discharge pipe, but not really wanting a lot of mods. I'd just like an extra 50 or so hp and reasonable fuel mileage. I plan on doing the DIY cone type air filter that I read about on this site.
