water pumps

I have a 95 psd. the question I have is concerning water pumps. should i use a newer 96/97 water pump on mine if I replace it? I remember reading something about the thermostats being different. is that so? and if it is, whats different witht he stat and the pump? anything else I need to know or consider before replacing it?

thanks

Either the 94/95 or 96/97 waterpump will work. There are two differences between the two. The bypass seat is deeper on the 96-97 and it takes a different thermostat with a longer neck. For the 94-95 you can get either a 192 or 203 degree t'stat but for the 96-97 you can only get a 192 unless you order one from Bob at Dieselsite. There is also a good explanation of the differences on Rileys website.

The nipple for the return from the heater core is also different. on 94-95 it was NPT and for the 95-96 it's straight threads with an o-ring.

FYI: You might already know the water pump on your 95 has right hand threads on the big nut, most water pumps have left hand threads.
