Hey guys my 88's pass side window wont go up. I can hear the motor running and the window kinda bounces like it wants to go up. Oh an my rear window only goes up and down when I push on the drivers side of the tailgate. Can I adjust this??
Jim , recently i had the same problem with my rear window chattering. Unfortunatly the gear to roll these windows up/down is plastic and they do strip out. Seems u have to remove the motor and they make a rebuild kit (gear)Do a search at advance auto. The rear tailgate has to be closed for your window to roll up or dwn--possibly your trouble (limit switch)/ striker bar adjustment Goodluck TR
If you are having to push on the tailgate make sure that the latch on that side is not frozen up. I had the same problem and had to remove the latch to free it up so the gate wo7uld properly latch and make the window work.
I guess you have repaired this by now, but I have rebuilt several of the window motors (I have had several fords with auto windows) At first I went to junkyards to buy them at ~$25 to $50 a piece, and I never found a kit that replaces the plastic pieces that get chewed up inside the unit. I found a post in a forum somewhere once where a fellow was making these 3 little pieces from a wooden dowel with a rubber hose slipped over them. Just figure out the correct size dowel with a rubber hose that fits over them and cut them to the correct height and put these in in place of the plastic pieces. You can take apart another motor to see what the plastic pieces should look like and how they fit in. I think the designers of the plastic pieces made these so they would give/break if you got your head/arm/hand in the window and the regulator failed. I think you could just design/ build something to take this function out all together. The little dowel with rubber over them seem to work pretty well though if you wanted to give that a try.
