I did the common swap on my 302: the 4bbl holley. Now I ran into a problem where my stock air filter housing was too big, so i ran to summit racing and got their $15 air cleaner, it looks nice and all, but theres no way i can get cold air to it! this air cleaner is round, the whole filter element is exposed and it can suck air from any direction in the engine bay. How would i go about fabbing a cold air intake? i am not afraid of fabrication so gimme what ya got
just to clear things up, i want to use the plastic attatchment for the original cleaner snorkel to my new cleaner
I don't understand what the problem is with the stock aircleaner. You have the stock aluminum Ford aircleaner correct? What does it interfere with? I have always been able to use the stock aircleaner with the holleys. The only interference I ever had was with the fuel line. If you bend it down enough, it will clear. Or you can buy a banjo fitting from Holley or Summit that is like a sharp elbow to clear the air cleaner. A small dent placed in the bottom of the aircleaner will help too.
If you are going to drive this truck in the winter, you are also going to want to hook the exhaust heat feature back up on the stock aircleaner. It will keep the carb from building up frost on cold rainy days.
my stock 2bbl cleaner is too big, its like motorcraft (stock 2bbl) used bigger necked carbs than holley. by the way, where would i get a replacement duct for the cold air intake? the junkyards around here have them but they are all broken and trashed.
