410 Timing question

410 Timing question
I have a 410 out of a 66 67 mercury wht should the timing be set to? It hs long tube headers to my knowledge every thing else is factory. My toughts would be 8 to 12% BTDC

That should be pretty good. A better way would be to set max mechanical advance to 36° to 38° and then check initial and us that number as the max number is more important than the initial.

Pull the breaker plate on your distributor and see what advance slot you're using, 10L 13L 15L etc. (double that) and adjust your initial advance accordingly to achieve 36 to 38 degrees total advance.
