I imagine with a new 5.4 there will be a new V10 as well; have not heard anything about the 09 SDs, however, if it was anything like in 04, it might take a year longer for them to get the updated motors.
I thought I read that the 6.2L was going to be a direct replacement for the V10?
What 6.2 ? the future mystery motor. off again / on again . If we ever see this thing it will be a performance type design for the F150 /merc/stang.It might find it's way into the Superduty (2011) with the redesign ,but it will not and can not replace the v-10 in all H.D superduty/ F53 motorhome ect..
Note: with all the drama in the diesel world the future of the V-10 is very good.

From what I've read, it seems like Ford plans to drop the V10 and replace it with the 6.2L Boss.
Heres an interesting read from Car & Driver that somewhat outlines Ford's future engine plans.
What it sounds like to me is that Ford will do away with the V10 and the 4.6L and replace them with the 6.2 and a new 5.0 based off of the 4.6, although it sounds like the 5.4 will stick around for some time longer.
With the idling/re-tooling or reduced production of SUV and truck plants, gas prices, and everything else going on, I wonder what the real future of the 6.2 gasser is?
It better out-torque the V10, that's for sure. With less displacement, and only 8 cylinders firing, I'm not so sure it will. However, it would fill in the gap between the 5.4 and the V10.
(More cylinders means more "average" torque. WIth 4 cylinders firing per revolution, there is a gap between firings where the torque drops for an instant. With 10 cylinders (5 firing per rotation) that gap is less, meaning more usable torque overall)
aortizexcursion Thanks ,
You are right, Based on that it does not look good for the mighy V-10.
I will be sad to see it go. It was a workhorse for so many years and they just fixed the spark plug / head issue a couple month's ago.
feel's like the summer of 78 all over again. I guess I better order up a new 79, Sorry 2009 And hang on to it.
like my old 79 bronco.

It is going to be disappointing to see it go, but just remember this all just speculation, it might or might not happen.
