Wiring HELP
One of the orange wires goes to the guage, the other orange and the third wire,(possibly yellow) go to the 2 senders in the tanks.
to check the wires, simply connect 2 together with the key on.
if the guage works then you have one guage wire and one sender wire.
try all three combinations, the combination that does not run the guage will be the 2 sender wires.
the wire you didn't use will be the guage wire.
now to check the switch, you will need an ohm meter or a test light.
this is a bit tricky to explain so bear with me.
if you mark the terminals in your head 1-5, or right it down if you need to.
turn the switch to tank 1
put one end of the ohm meter on terminal 1, put the other end on 2-3-4-5, you are looking for a short between 2 terminals, when you switch to tank 2 you will lose the short.
now do it again with the switch on tank 2
what your looking for is a combination that will connect 1 and 2 on tank 1 and 1 and 3 on tank 2.
now put the 2 sender wires that you identified on 2 and 3, and the guage wire on 1.
Now if I totally confused you I'm sorry
. You can email me at CapeCanal@comcast .net if I can help.
The orange wire from the dash harness is from the rear (main) tank. There is another wire, yellow/white, that comes from the firewall behind the LH side of te dash for the front (aux) tank.
The orange wire with the red end will plug into the main tank wire coming out of the harness. The other end will go onto the terminal on the pass side of the switch as it is oriented in the dash. The yellow and white wire will connect to the drivers side terminal of the switch. The orange wire with the blue connector will connect the the center terminal of the switch and then to the gauge.
If you need clarification of the switch pins, I can post a picture of a factory switch and where the wires connect.
