Carb question
Me and my grandpa rebuilt my 1 barrel carb (64 f-100, 223 engine) because it was flooding really bad and was yucky all inside. But it had no leaks just flooded.
well now that we have rebuilt it and put it back on it leaks around the diaphram seal. and believe me its tight on there. Any suggestions on what we did wrong and how to fix it. I haven't been able to find a new one that I can afford to buy. a 14 yr old just dont have alot of resources for money.
Any suggestions on what we done wrong and how to fix it would be great.
Thanks
Matt (in Arkansas)
As for the carb leaking...have you removed the diaphram to look to see if it was damaged or didnt seat right for whatever reason or was possibly put in backwards. when you have the cover for the diaphram off look on it and the edges of the carb body for rough spots or areas that could also be keeping the plate and diaphram from seating flush all the way around like it should.
As for over tightening...dont reef too much as that can split gaskets...I did that a few times with different types of gaskets when I was younger before I figured out to not overtighten.
Let us know how things turn out....you are lucky your grandpa is there to help you with car stuff and so on...I wasnt that fortunate....I soooooo envy you Matt
