transfer case?

I have been in need of a transfer case for my 89 f250 for over a year now. I've been babying it along and have tried to only use 2wd drive. I has the tendancy to pop out of high gear completely, sending no power to the wheels. It also blows all of the fluid out if the hubs are left locked in while driving down the road. I know whats wrong with it(except for blowing the fluid out), but after the wear and tear its been through would rather put another one in it. The problem is that I can only find transfer cases with the universal connection on the end. Mine is a slip yoke, and thus my dilemma. My question is, Can the tailshafts be easily swapped between a slipyoke and universal style connection?

I am not for sure on that transfer case. I have been into a couple of them but I can't call on that. I guess, if you have one, take it apart and see.

Have you thought about finding a truck like yours (same wheel base) in a wrecking yard that has the fixed yoke X-case and getting the rear driveline out of it?

I would not trade my fixed yoke for a slip joint yoke.

Rear drive shaft problems, remove the shaft and run front wheel drive, and don't have to worry about losing transfer case fluid.

Can't do that in the one with the slip yoke.

I don't think anybody would argue with that.
Slip yokes suck! That's why there's a cottage industry making slip-yoke-eliminators.

I guess I could use a fixed yoke, the problem is my trucks a supercab, and 4x4 supercabs are rare around central Florida, at least in the junkyards anyway. There are plenty of 2wd models, but very few 4x4 trucks. I would rather have a slip yoke, but dont want to go through the trouble of altering the driveshaft. If I found a complete donor, I may go for it, but would rather have a bolt on swap.

my truck is a slip yoke ext cab lb too.. no problems.. one of my good friends has a parts truck just like it, i'm sure its a slip yoke too. you said you're in florida? is yours a Borg warner 1356? i'm a little far away but there's lots of long wheel base trucks around here. seeing how they are not that heavy getting one shipped might not be very expensive... as long as you can get it reasonably priced.

Where are you located Northern?

Today I was out at the junkyard and came across two possible doners. Their both 86 model f150's. Their both automatics, ones an extended cab and the others not. The extended cab has a fixed yoke while the regular cab has a slipyoke. Are the dimensions for the drive line the same between an automatic extended cab and a manual extended cab. When it comes to the regular cab truck it has a new process transfer case on it, is it about the same dimensions as my 1356? Will the shift linkages bolt up from my truck? From what I've been reading these transfer cases will bolt on but do not have as low of a gearing as my 1356. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dunno if the case from an F150 will bolt up to the diesel tranny or not. I have a spare I'd be willing to sell ya' but the shipping from WA to FL would probably be prohibitive...
