I test drove another truck today. It felt better than mine but not drastically better. It still had some lag to it. What I see happening is that when I first hit the gas pedal the rpm's will jump up to 1,500 but the boost gauge doesnt move. About 2 seconds later the boost gauge will move and then the truck takes off better. Its not that the truck doesnt move, it just moves slow until the turbo kicks in. Not that my goal is to do burnouts but this truck wouldnt spin a tire off the line if it had to. Maybe I have traction control but they hid the switch somewhere under the seat.
My 6.uh-oh was DEFINITELY more responsive from a dead stop. Rolling down the highway feels about the same. Im guessing when I tow tomorrow this beast will really shine.
Other than that, this truck is SWEEEEEEET It almost feels wrong to work a truck that is more cushy than the wifes Taurus. I dont know how I made it this far in life without a camera in my tailgate. Ha, ha.
Thanks to everyone that has replied!!! You guys rock!
After 200+ miles the described "lag" is pretty much gone and it's just an impressive machine. I don't want to get on it until I get her broken in, but I have a feeling this truck is just waiting to be beat on!
It's just a different truck so getting used to the new technology takes some adjustment IMHO. Upgrading from a modded 7.3 is a large curve to get used to. I have no doubt that as this engine gets some time to break in the results will be nothing short of impressive.

One other thing that makes this truck different than the 6.0 is quietness. It is so quiet it can be deceiving. For example my Firehawk has an exhaust package on it. It feels so much faster than my wifes Vette because the Vette is so quiet. But our 0-60 times are only .2 tenths of second apart. Feels more like 2 seconds while driving them. My Firehawk is 4.9 0-60 my truck 10.3 and weighs 3 times more. Driving my Firehawk at 45mph feels like 45 my truck driving 60mph feels like 45. I'll get a ticket in my truck yet. I have the same problem towing on roads that are 50mph it is so easy to do 60 because you can not feel the speed even with the 5ver on.
I read this thread earlier, so I went to my local dealer and took a brand new f-350 CC/short bed build 3 for a short test drive ESPECIALLY to see if it behaved like this. I drove to and from in my 95 Yukon 6.5 diesel. That poor GMC will P*SS ALL OVER that F(lat)-350 in acceleration with a LOT less pedal. This ford (lower case intentional) had the 3.73 gears and 20" wheels, so its pushing a pretty long legged final ratio (the GMC has 3.42 with 16 inch wheels). You guys with the 4.10's and lower are going to get a LOT more jump out of the chute, be careful when comparing? The F(lat)-350 was somewhat slow and did come on late.I don't know why the Ford turbo setup acts like that when the GMC comes on strong throughout the RPM range. Also note the DMAX peak torque is at 1600 while your PSD peaks at 2000rpm (by the manufacturer's specs) IMHO the flat ford is probably giving its best, given the configurations. If you need to get going, I guess you need to JUMP on it?
OBTW I am probably going to by that F(lat)-350 since I am pretty conservative when it comes to driving my trucks...Apologies for the L O N G post!
You seem quite immature by calling the F series F(lat)
btw, a review from Trailer Boat Magazine said that most testers hated how the DMAX's power came on, and were much more impressed by the Cummins, and the PSD's even with its "high" peak torque RPM
Also a 6.5 will not beat an F-350 6.4 in anything, except maybe in number of broken crank shafts
IMMATURE!!! I wanted a WHIP to move that F(at) F(lat) 350!!
Having said that, its a nice truck and will certainly do what I want it to do..It just takes a little longer.
For those of you that need a short refresher in physics; Its much more efficient to loose a pound of weight than to add horsepower. The Yukon doesn't weigh NEARLY what that F(at)-350 weighs.
I wasn't running the truck down...Just sharing the results of a very unscientific experiment
CHEESSSSHH Sensitivity reigns!
No apologies

Reason: typo
Yes taking off easy you do have to push down on the peddle more, These drivetrains are so heavy duty and tight, Especially the transmission. My 99 v10 with a manual was very responsive, just tap the gas and it would take off. Ford built these trucks to tow heavy not to be drag racers. When these trucks are new they are very very tight. The auto does take a lot of extra power. The manual guys are getting about 2 mpg better. The 08 autos were beefed up more to handle the extra towing weight. Why do you think they are capable of towing 24,000#? If I want to tear up the payment I jump in my Firehawk, but if I want to tow heavy I take my truck for what it was designed for.
Im either getting more used to this or else it is getting better. I think it is getting better. I towed with it yesterday, the slow launch is probably beneficial with a bunch of weight on it. Towing yesterday probably helped break it in a little more and today it feels quite a bit better. Maybe as some have suggested, it will continue to improve with age/miles.
I also agree that the quietness of the truck (both the engine and the sound deadening of the cab) makes your speed deceptive.
As for comparing other trucks, there is better, there is worse when it comes to speed and power. But I looked at all 3 big trucks and neither Dodge or Chevy hold a candle to Ford on the interior design/comfort/style/quietness. Seems that any time I let someone sit behind the wheel (to show off my back up camera) its a battle to get them back out of the truck. They all LOVE the interior and sit there looking around like a kid in a candy store wondering what to touch first.
I noticed a little lag on mine at first but when I tried it yesterday at different throttle pressures, no lag at all. Mine has almost 6K miles on it now so sometime between new and 6K miles, the lag disappeared.
