Im looking at a 5" exhaust set up on Ebay.
Its a straight pipe with no muffler from the turbo back.
Can anyone tell me how loud that will make the truck?
I like a little loud but I dont want a noisy old tank for a daily driver.
What setup are you looking at? I have a 5" system and can say it is not too loud, though I have the muffler just because that is the law here. I don't really think it muffles much, it is the MKO system. Looking through the muffler, it is huge. Seems any gas could go straight through.
I have 5" straight piped w6" tip on my truck, idle and low RPM its not really that loud, its just a deeper rumble, but when you got on it and get the RPMs up past 2k it starts to get loud.
Is the extra HP going to make my EG's higher?
Ive got a Edge Eveloution in it now.
Anything that helps the hot exhaust get out faster and more efficiently should serve to reduce EGTs. More HP will lead to higher EGTs but allowing the heat out better will keep it in check.
In my case, 4" DP and BB turbo with 1.15 housing, I really don't have any trouble with EGTs. Pulled a Bobcat on a tandem the other day. What a heavy pig that was. In 80 econo, outside temps in the 90s, took a lot of go pedal to get that sucker moving. I actually thought the trailer brakes were stuck. I didn't like the way the 60tow tune was pulling it. Heaviest thing I have pulled.

I don't think this will help much. The restriction will be the 4 in downpipe anyhow. I don't think the rest of the exhaust system is really restrictive so going from 4 to 5 is not going to gain much. Ricers do it all the time. 5 in tip necking down to a 3 in outlet from the muffler further necking down to a 1 in inlet.

That is correct. 4" will flow more than 3.5". After the DP it is all about preference as long as the pipe is at least 4" as well.
The 5 inch systems seem to be more about sound and look than performance. As stated, the down pipe is 4 inch so the 5 inch exhaust is about asthetics and sound. I like the look and the sound of the 5 inch so when I get to the exhaust again, I will more than likely go the 5 inch route.
I agree with the above statements. I like the sound of my 5" straight pipe better than with the muffler. The 6" tip helps make it a little deeper. Mike you not going to write me a ticket are you.

Nah, I have bigger fish to fry.
That 5" does rumble though. I love it even with the muffler.
