Not for my car, but steep compared to a F150 with 31.7" tall tires (265/70R17). My tires on the car are 26" tall. (265/50R15)

I'd also like to see the Ram actually succeed in achieving 23mpgs. Heck the current 5.7L HEMI can barely get 11mpgs city, let alone 18-19 mpgs highway with MDS. So some vast improvements must have been made to get the 23mpgs. Then again the article doesn't state it's the 5.7L HEMI that gets 23mpgs.
2008 2wd QuadCab 5.7L HEMI 5-speed auto with 20" wheels and 3.92 gear.
Getting 14.5 around town and 21.4mpg on a not so flat highway and it's only 2 weeks old.
It can happen. I have one.

Hopefully the 09 F150 will be somewhere close to that!!!

Sorry, should have been more specific.

Now is there a rumor that the F150 will get the 5.0 again?
The 5.0 4V is said be going into both Mustang and F150, albeit in very different states of tune. 5.0 Mustang will make 400-420 HP to the F150s 340-350 HP.

F150 is said to be getting a version of the EcoBoost V6 as well. With gas prices like they are, it only makes sense.

Updated 4-valve Modular, probably going to take the place of the 5.4 3V in the lineup, I bet the 4.6 3V will stick around as it's inexpensive and gets decent mileage. It's a great entry level V8.

well, I guess with 3.55's you wouldn't have many traction problems, even w/ those tires...

my garage was a mess after the move to MN :P

I only have the round town calculation as of now. 14.6 on the last fill up.
Reset the display for a 26 mile trip down the freeway with the cruise set on 74mph.

Spins thru the top of 2nd gear. I bought those tires back many years ago and I guess they are a bit hard now.

The new 09 hemi will have around 330-340 or so ft-lbs @ 2000 RPM, around 310 @ 1200 RPM, and it will hit its peak of 404 ft-lbs around 4300-4500 RPM

Very flat torque curve, like the 5.4

I don't know why you would want the V10 in the F150, my dad's 08 F250 V10 only gets 11 to 12 mpgs no matter if its city or highway driving.

for the new F150, DearbornDerek said 2 new motors for 2010, and 2 more for 2011.

Your dad's V10 is getting 11 to 12mpg in a much heavier and bigger truck. however, that V10 gets better MPG than the 5.4 in the same trucks when towing, and only marginally worse in town... it wouldn't do anywhere as bad in the F150. Note the difference in the 4.2, 4.6 and 5.4 as far as MPG in the F150s...

MPG has very little to do w/ the engine when you're trying to push a 6000 (or in your dad's case, 8000) lb object with the aerodynamics of a brick (or in your dad's case, a barn).

I will be probably moving to a V10 F250/F350 soon enough though, as 09 isn't gonna bring much in terms of power to the F150 apparently...

BS gas mileage numbers

How many of you have ever had the opportunity to travel in tandem with one of these guys that make this kind of mileage? I had that chance not long ago when a friend of mine (big GM nut) was making the claim that his 07 Chevy with the 5.3 crew cab was making 22 mpg on the highway. Well it seems that he doesn't know how to figure the mileage. He followed me to the destination and I followed him back. I made the normal and predictable 15.8, and he made 16.45. His truck has approx. 18000 miles on it and mine has 170,000 miles on it. He can't outrun me, and I think that if I had a tonneu cover like he does, that I would have matched or topped his mpg. Equal trucks over the same route, driven the same way and the mileage numbers are very comparable. Bottom line for me is that while some may actually get that 20 plus mpg from their trucks, I know that where I live and drive 15 is closer to the truth as well as the trucks ability, regardless of who makes it.

Can't go by that short of a trip for mpg IMO. Should run 3/4 of a tank of fuel on the highway to get an accurate mpg reading.

The MPG rating the manufacturers release are pure marketing fiction. I just read an article about a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid(6.2L) that covered over 2000kms over all driving conditions varying from strictly city to stricktly hwy as well as mixed. It got the best milage in the city running on batteries mostly, but even then it only managed 11.2 liters per 100kms(21mpg), it did slightly less at hwy speeds running on 4 cylinders, 11.6(20mpg). If a fullsize Hybrid only manages 20mpg in real world conditions I don't see how a non hybrid pickup could do any better.
