radiator cap

I was out runnin the truck to find a suspected a leak.I found earlier 2 dried "wet" lines at the top. Ive got the orginal 53 rad. just pressure tested..passed..seems to keep it cool ( 302 small block) soooo I shut her down after 30 min 195degrees no leak but the darn 7 lb cap starts dripping,I have a overflow that works, fills and drains etc. So how do I stop the drip? Is it a bad cap? Do I need a smaller lb pressure cap? O yea the radiator place did mention 7lb should be ok
Help I want to drive to the western nationals
(2 hours) and worry only about the things I dont know I should worry about

Mark, do you mean it starts dripping from around the cap? If so I would say you have a bad cap. It would seem then that it is only leaking when the cap is releasing pressure to the overflow, does that sound about right?

The stock 53 radiator uses a 4lb cap. My 56 radiator was pressure tested, too. A 7lb cap blew a leak in the upper tank seam. 4lb works fine.

Wow, I haven't seen a 4lb cap in a long time!

I'd also check the top sealing surface of the radiator filler neck to make sure it's flat. You might also have a pin hole where that is soldered on to the radiator, and it's shooting up under the cap then dripping down.

4 lb. pressure radiator cap(s)

Anyone looking for an original FoMoCo 4 lb. radiator cap?

1948/51: A1TZ8100A (replaced 41A-8100-C)

Kinsal Lincoln/Mercury in Beaumont TX has two / Bob Allen Ford in Overland Park KS has two.

Griesel Motor Co. in Okarche OK has one / Bowman Sales in Bowman OK has one.

Pleasantville Ford in Pleasantville NY has one.

greensalescompany.com (800-543-4959) has eight - verify they are originals.

1951/56: B2TZ8100A (replaced 1T-8100-A)

Lyle's Ford-Mercury in Eagle Grove IA has two.

greensalescompany.com has ten - verify they are originals.

HiThe leak is at the cap.. well just under it. The cap also has a red relief leverNow a 4lb will release the pressure earlier right? So the over flow will be usedquicker and thus take the pressure off the radiator. Is that about the size of it?Also I like the looks of the old rad. brass top and all even thro the engine is different thanks to the po.So I would like to keep this orignal. Thanks for the information and helpMark

Ok I just found a spilt on the filler neck just below the cap....So that is the problem...now for a little flex, a little solder, and a slow hand
Thanks for talking it out
