My new 2008 f-150 xl has a cigarette outlet and a similar 12 volt outlet.
They both seem to be on whether the ignition is on or off.
What if I want my radar detector to come on with the engine?
Pretty much every Ford I've ever owned has been this way; I have to manually shut off my GPS when I shut the truck off. I kind of like it that way though because it charges the GPS's battery when I'm away (the GPS doesn't take much juice). You could set up a relay that turns the lighter on\off when the key is in ACC or RUN; you'd have to cut up your wiring though. Maybe someone can suggest a cleaner way?
Just go buy a new power port at radio shack or somewhere. Then mount it under the dash or wherever, and then run wires to the fuse box and use a fuse tap to plug into a fuse that only has power with the key in acc or run. Here it is.
