Has anyone done this A guy in oregon has a 2002 6spd for sale that he had the shaft resplined and hardened to fit our transfercases. This trans is for 7.3 and would eliminate the speedo problem.

I don't remember what the size is, but the ZF 6 has a much larger input and output shaft.

I am thinking they are like 1.375".

That would be a lot of metal off the shafts.

So if a transmission is as strong as it's weakest component would it be as strong as a zf5. did the zf5 have any issues wiyh the mainshaft. Just thinking this would be a neat conversion.

The main issues with the ZF 5 are the case and the way it oils.
The bell housing area is not heavy enough and basically splash lubrication.

The ZF 6 is a much heavier built unit.
