A/C Constant Clicking

2001 F150 4X4 w/5.4l.

Looking for solutions to a constant clicking noise under the hood only when the A/C is running. It has been doing this for some time now (couple of years), just now reading to look into it. It instantly goes away when you turn the control to panel, or floor.

A/C seems to work fine, cools the inside of the truck just fine with recent 90 degrees plus.

It doesn't seem to change with engine speed either. Constant at a click or two a second.

Ideas? Thoughts to fix?

Thanks in advance

At first i was thinking it might be the compressor engaging and disengaging.... but it seems way too rapid to be that.
Just to be sure, look at the compressor to see if it does anything abnormal while it makes the clicking noise.

it's been doing it for a couple of years? If it was something major, it probably would have given out by now....maybe just something lose?

Yea, couple of years it has been doing it.

I thought as well that if it were a real problem, something would have happened by now with it.

This was happening in my 02 Exploder. Although it wasn't blowing cold like yours. As soon as I charged it up, the compresser clutch stoped doing it. Maybe you are a little low?
