I had to drain 4 to 5 quarts of oil out of my engine, took it to the dealer and they said who ever did the last change put to much oil in "yea right" I had the dealer change the oil and mark the dip stick and they said to keep an eye on it. 1200 miles later it's an inch above full, took it to the dealer today and the tech informed me I wasn't checking the oil correctly, I should wait just 5 minutes then check it, I informed him per the manual it says 20 minutes then check it. When I went to pick the truck up, I checked the oil and the level was down to where it should be, crawled under the truck to see if the drain plug was wet, to confirm they drained oil out, it was wet. I asked them about it, and they denied draining oil out. My question is should I call Ford about what I suspect, or just take it back in again when the oil level rises again.
Cost me $202 for diagnostics, what a crock.
Is the truck running right? I'd have the oil tested if it was me. You could be leaking coolant into the oil, or maybe even diesel leaking in. You could at least check the consistency to see how thin it is, and see where your coolant level is at. If it's not running right, and level comes up again suspect fuel leaking into the crank case. there are actually several locations where this could happen. let us know what you find.
Problem started when I couldn't get my 8000 pound fifth wheel to highway speed, thats when I found the oil level high, after I drained the oil, it ran fine. Ruled out coolant, believe it to be fuel, guess I'll get an oil analysis done. It's still under warranty,
If you paid $202 and they did nothing to fix it other than deny a problem I would definately be in contact with Ford. Power Smoker had a great idea on the used oil analysis, those will tell you if it is fuel or coolant and actually how bad it is. Youve got a failure coming in the future if this doesnt get fixed and would be a good piece of ammo to use against Ford or your dealer when it fails and they did nothing.
What you describe sounds like a leaking injector O ring that is allowing fuel to get into the oil. Your power issue is probably due to the fact that fuel in one or more cylinders is going into your crankcase vice getting burned and making power. This problem was not uncommon on the early 6.0s but is rare on the later 6.0s. Did you recently have any injector or head work done? If so, sounds like an injector didn't get installed correctly. Does your oil have a strong diesel smell to it?
Regardless, I wouldn't drive it until it gets properly diagnosed. I would find another service department that knows what they're doing. Sounds like the one you're going to doesn't have a clue. I would also fight for that $202 back because they didn't properly diagnose your problem. A service tech with basic knowledge of the 6.0 should be able to find the problem. This particular problem is about as basic as they come with the 6.0 and shouldn't be hard to figure out.
Whoever you take it to, make sure they have a certified 6.0 diesel tech on staff.
