my 79 f150 is having the same type issue, my tailights and signals work but the brakelights don't . fuses are good and bulbs are good, so i'll keep pulling my hair out. must be gremlins. lol
i just went through a similar problem only to find out that the ground was all rusty. changed the ground and hasnt caused a problem since. the first thing you should do is check your grounds. this solves 90% of all electrical gremlins.
