cold air intake

i have a 2006 f 150 stx with a 4.2 L motor and want to get a cold air intake but some of the different brands only fit the 4.6L would this hurt my engine if a put one on for a 4.6L and have a 4.2L

1/2 in one, and 1/2 in the other

mainly, the issue you're going to find problems with is the MAF sensor and the intake opening size

if the maf sensor will fit from your 4.2 onto a 4.6 CAI...you might get lucky. but the 4.6 requires more airflow than a v-6, so that might even get you a CEL and lean condition.

then there is also the fitment problem. I haven't seen a 4.2l since 1998, so I cannot remmeber how big the intake size is. will the 4.6 one fit? if not, you're going to have to fab one up...and if there are any air leaks, again you are looking at a CEL and a lean conditions...if it even stays running

best bet is to just not mess with it...sorry man

I don't think they make one...you're probably going to be limited to drop in air filters
