trans temps

My buddy has a 2001 f-350 4x4. Saturday night while pulling a 28' enclosed trailer with a racecar the trans temp reached 250deg and hovered around 220. Tha trans has been rebuilt by a reputable local trans guy naw everythingand triple disk billet torque converter. We also added a rv sized trans cooler with a fan and 6an lines. Even on the way back no trailer temps were 200deg this was at 2am about 76deg outside. i was just wondering what kind of trans temps other guys were seeing

Seems Very High, Especially Since There Is An Aux Cooler. Empty I Run ~135* And Towing ~160*. Something Is Not Right. How Long Ago Was The Rebuild....

Kind of off topic but does the stock trans temp guage work accurately on these trucks? Mine is always in the same spot, doesnt matter if I am towing or not...

If it were me, I would be changing the fluid.. From what I have read the oil will starts to breakdown after about 230 degrees.. I pull a 25 foot rv and never get above 210 ever.. I have a TrueCool cooler and a stock TC..The temps seems to really get high when going thru town with stop and go.. All the rest of the time the temps stays around 150 - 170.
It could be maybe the bypass valve is preventing the oil from going to the cooler..

Yeah i rarelr see over 180 but his trans was rebuilt a few years ago. I checked the fluid when we arived in delaware, looked good wasnt burnt but it had puked a little out on the trans i guess a seal thing with temps that high. I even pulled out the infared thermometer and checked the pan temp a few times it was within 20deg.

Thanks for the info.

I bought a guage pod and am ready to buy guages. Does the tranny temp guage come with the sensor and wires needed to replace the old one? Or can you recommend what to buy to replace it?

Thanks

I have 2 aux coolers. One is a V10 and the other is a huge trans cool. I run around 140 empty and 160 pulling horse trailer with 3 horses up and down hills. I have a trans temp gauge with the sensor in the test port on the drivers side of the tranny.

should come with eveything you need, and there is a port on the drivers side of the trans near the top and towards the engine that the probe goes into, and you'll be set, heres a pic of it 3-Gauge Install Pictures

All the info has been great. But another question.

I want to buy the autometer ultralite II tranny temp guage. But, theres two different guages?? Is there a difference? Model#4937 and #4957??

Also, I have read some about the sending unit needing to be the short version? Any help would be appreciated.

4937 seems to be a water temp guage.
