I'd get that amp checked out at a reputable electronics repair shop that is authourized for that brand if it is a decent amp. Do you have your power wire fused?

Are you running your Amp at an Ohm load that it is not rated for?

I had a PPI Amp do the same thing. It's probably just surging the current. My advise, go get a new amp...Why spend half as much to fix something as you would to go buy a new one. If the amp is older, there could be other problems that occcur too. Unless it was a seriouly expensive amp or it has some sentimental value (like the amp you were listening to when Sue- Ann Jenkins first made out with you in the back of your pickup) I'd trash it and go get a new amp (I suggest PPI, I had mine for 6 years before it bit the dust and I pushed it HARD). Check out caraudioreview.com for some great reviews on amps.

Hey Brad, were your old PPI amps "Art series"? I've got a couple of the old "Art series", an A600.2 and an A404 definately the best amps I've ever owned. PPI's new stuff doesn't even compare.

Greetings Dustin,

So far, you appear to have one of the nicer systems posted on this board. I would like to add my two cents worth. Having worked on the design teams that developed PPI's Art Series, PowerClass Series and the TubeDriver Series amplifiers, I am intimately familiar with these amplifiers. I agree in your assertion that the Art Series were wonderful amplifiers. However, the newer **regulated** PowerClass designs are based upon the older Art Series amplifiers. Both series feature low THD, Low TIMD and relatively high slew rates and damping factors. These characteristics are what gives these amplifiers that warm presence and openness. The newer unregulated PPI amplifiers may be what you are alluding to. The bottom line is, "you get what you pay for". Regulated designs simply cost more to build. BTW, Low TIMD ( Transient Inter Modulation Distortion ) is far more important that low THD. Just ask any Tube Head.

I will be installing a complete system in my brand new F-350 Crew cab in the very near future. Here is what will be in it:

Denon DCT-1000r AM/FM/CD head unit ( hard to get )
PPI TubeDriver 2150 amplifier Woofer/mid/tweeter
PPI TubeDriver 1250 amplifier Subwoofer monoblock
PPI PAR-245 parametric EQ
1 Pair Morel 6" Woofers
1 Pair Focal 5" Kevlar Mids
1 Pair Focal inverted dome Kevlar tweeters
1 Pair PPI 8" 4 Ohm Flat Piston Subwoofers in a dual ported BP enclosure.

I have everything but the head unit, which I am having difficulty locating in the USA. They're still available in Japan though. I can't wait to replace the stock system, it's ok for factory, but can still use some help.

Regards,

Bender

Bender,

Sounds like you will have a great system in your truck. Are you planning on posting any pics? I have begun work on the audio side of my 2000 F-250 CC. It is good to see others who appreciate a quality system in such quality trucks.

Murph.

LAST EDITED ON 22-Feb-01 AT 09:45 PM (EST)[p]Yes Robert you read me completly right. I was in fact reffering to the entry level PPI stuff, because there seems to be more of it it around than the Powerclass series. I was not aware that the Powerclass stuff was based on Art series tech. Well anyways nice to know we have someone with a very strong technical backing in car audio.

Greetings once again,

I will indeed be posting pics as things develop. I am currently
working about 12 to 14 hours a day to develop the next generation
of PPI amplifiers, so please be patient. The new stuff is going to be nothing short of wonderful, no check that, nothing short of stunning. A little sneek preview, more power for the regulated amps and more flexible filters on both the speaker terminals as well as the RCA outputs. I'd put these babys in my truck, but I am a Tube Head. I guess I just can't get enough of that even harmonic distortion. I may be getting old, but I still have the passion ( or maybe sickness ) for sound quality car audio. I guess that's why I do what I do. It will always warm my heart to hear stories from tried and true PPI fans.

If anyone in this group has questions that I might possibly be able to help with, I will be glad to do my best.

Jesus, Joseph and Mary, I love my Ford truck. Every day I sound more and more like my dad. It doesn't scare me, it only honors him.

Bender

Greetings,

I too agree that the new stuff ( read entry level ) doesn't even come close to the real thing. It's okay, its just not the bomb. BTW if any of you guys get a chance to listen to or buy one of PPI's Tube Driver amplifiers, then I beg you to do so. It raises the hair on my arms everytime I listen to mine. PPI is going to do one more run and just maybe keep the line alive. It will all depend on how well they do. I will give you all a little hint. The TD 275, TD 2150 TD1250 and the TD 4100 are all **stellar** sounding amplifiers. Stay away from the TD 450. They may be Watt sucking glow FETS and take 40 seconds to warm up, but that is a cheap price to pay for such beautiful sound.

I will try my best to stay up on this news board, as you guys ( and gals ) are Ford people and I will gladly answer any audio questions that might come my way. On Tuesday last, I became a member of the Great Fraternal Order of Ford. It feels great!! I just don't know why it took me so long to "see the light"

Many happy returns,

Bender

With a name like Tubedriver, perhaps you know more than you let
on. If you would like to know more about these amplifiers, please checkout

http://www.precisionpower.com/ppitopbar.html

There are two Tubedriver camps, if you are from the evil camp,
then I will not converse with you. If you are of the good camp, then perhaps I will converse. I have said enough. Let me know.

I have a PPI 2150 powerclass amp, and that has to be one of the baddest *** amps I have ever owned honestly, so Bender you are a PPI engineer. Is it alright to run 4 speakers off of a 2 channel amp, while watching the ohm load on the amp
