53-56 drop axle
53-56 drop axle
I brought a drop axle from Midfifty a few months ago I got it installed went to two different shops for an alignment the last shop said the camber was off -3 degrees which made the tire angle out like it had too much weight. I called Midfifty and got in touch with the maker he said I could send it back or have the shop bend the axle to specs which he will pay for. Since I already had in the axle in I had it bent. It took about an 1 1/2 to get it corrected the truck drives great however, it appears the passenger side has risen about an inch...long story short if given the opportunity don't have the axle bent get another one.
It was one of those shops I found years that does large trucks with straight axles I had them do my king pins about four years ago great guy knew a lot about old Fords retired and passed the business to his son. I think he used a hydrolic jack..I drove it over their pit he said he applied about 5T lbs. of force and let it bend slowly during the hour. The center of the axle bent upwards about 2 inches. Both sides were originally at -3 camber.
That's about right camber for a straight axle before setting the caster which will reduce the camber. So why did you have it bent? The old guy didn't pass his knowlege onto the kid, he should not have bent the axle in the center even if it did need bending, especially if it was one of the tubular ones.
