Aarrhh!!!!

i fixed 4 A/C units in 4 different cars today, then got into my 88 to go pick up my "new" welder.

guess what?? the dang A/C died over the winter!!

it worked fine for the past 20 years, and today, when it is 97º out, it decides to not work.

ok, rant over..

and i feel a little better now.

but i still got to fix the dang A/C.

Holy heat wave Batman!

97 is pretty rough w/o ac, I am so glad it only gets to the lower 90s here.

So what kind of welder are you picking up?

I have to look at my 95 Windstar ac system, we hardly drive that thing either.

it is a miller ac/dc with reverse polarity machine, single cylinder 9 hp Tecumseh..
got it for $150.

it is about 30 years old, but was only used 4-5 times as a welder, and maybe 15 hours as a generator for building bridges.

it was in the back of my buddies 71 F250 that went to the boneyard this afternoon.

it has not been started in at least 3 years now, but it turns over, so i know it is still good.
all i have to do is dump some gas in it, and put a battery in it.

Miller makes great machines, and I am sure you can find parts for it if you need them.

I hope to own a Miller TIG one day, but I need to save a bunch of pennies!

i have the best tig machine in the world. cause it's use is free.

it is in the big truck shop, and whenever i need anything precision welded, i take it there, and let the welders do it.

all this other stuff is just "toys" for the home shop.

guess what Darren??

it just gets better as the day goes on.

it is not a 9 hp, but a 16 hp.

and it has no spark, cause water got into the solid state ignition, and ruined the box.

and according to what i can see on the net, parts are no longer available for these engines.

Are you going to be able to repair the box or use a similar ignition?

I wonder if there is an electronic upgrade to it, plus there has to be a small engine shop somewhere that has to have a NOS ignition on their shelf.

Do you have the engine information? P/N and S/N etc.

yea, it is an OH160, overhead valve engine.
there is a very large shop about 15 miles away that specializes in older large small engines.
i am gonna call him tomorrow.
plus, it is a single cylinder, so i can't see the ignition module being a big deal.

an update fer ya Darren.

it now runs.

the magnito was bad, not the ignition module.

$125 for the mag, and 1/2 hour cleaning the carb.

Solid!

Fire it up and lay down some beads.

Those old machines are worth their weight in gold.

Have fun with the welder and post some project pictures later.
