I understand the additional cost for anything over 5qts. But the price for every works packages I've paid in the past was $42. Only the most recent service was it charged at $47. So this could be the reason, but can't see why they wouldn't have charged for the additional qts in the past.
Not sure.. my Stealership never has... which is OK by me
fordman; Sounds like you might be doing it yourself. It's pretty easy and you should not need to jack up the truck. I had no experience with Motorcraft oil before getting a new 2007 truck. The dealer changed it the first time at 6 months, using Motorcraft, so I continued to use it. I leave my oil in a whole year because the truck only gets about 2800 miles a year. It had gotten slightly brown but was still transparent. It's also the slipperiest-feeling oil I've experienced and I've been lurking under cars for about 45 years. I like the Motorcraft oil so much that I've decided to start using it instead of Mobil-1 in my other two cars (GM). Definitely get the Motorcraft filter too, although anti-drainback is not an issue since the filter on the 4.2L is under the engine on a down angle (it doesn't hang straight down like a Chevy small block). You will need a pan under the filter because it will leak about a half-cup of oil when you loosen it. If the drain plug is on the side of the oil pan like the 2007, oil will shoot out to the side about a foot, so have a big pan ready. At least on mine it didn't hit anything on the truck, but since I didn't expect it to shoot out that far I got a nice oil puddle on the driveway.
I'm unsure too, but simply chalk it up to them upping their prices to compensate for the cost of oil these days.
Yes - quite true! I recently sold some Honda HP4 20W50 Synthic oil that I bought years ago when I had my XR250 for $25 for the case of 12.. I still have 10 quarts left and sold it for $60!
I have 32,500 on my truck right now... another 2,500 it will go in for service - I'll let you know what the price is this time around
